  I love keeping my home smelling clean and fresh, and over the years I have used many different products to scent my home, including candles, incense, plug ins, oil diffusers, and more.   I use scents depending on my mood, or how I feel or whether or not company is coming, with my favorite being any type of relaxing fragrance.  Recently I discovered a great  company with unique products for scenting my home, Pink Zebra.

  Using a decorative electric Simmer Pot, you simply pour Pink Zebra’s scented Sprinkles into the bowl, plug in the warmer and wait for the wonderful scent to fill your home.  You don’t have to worry about an open flame if you have children or pets since the simmer pot uses a small light bulb to create the heat.   Sprinkles are actually little beads of Pink Zebra’s Soft Soy® wax mixed with high quality fragrance oils.  They come in a variety of fragrances, and you can even combine different Sprinkles to create your own unique scent!  These little Sprinkles will deliver 50% more fragrance than a regular scented candle due to the super concentrated levels of the fragrance oils!  Plus, as you know, soy wax burns much cleaner than other types such as parrafin wax.

  

  I received a beautiful, small Simmer Pot in Ivory, and three jars of Sprinkles in the incredible-smelling fragrances, “Relax"’,“Jasmine Vanilla” and “Garden Lilac”.   The ceramic Simmer Pot has a Fluer de Lis design around the side and is two separate pieces, a base and the removable bowl where you add the Sprinkles.  It uses a small light bulb in the base to heat the wax, and it has a convenient On/Off switch as well as an indicator lamp so you know when the Simmer Pot is On or Off.  When plugged in, it does get warm around the sides, and the burner plate which the bowl sits on is extremely hot so be careful not to touch it when the unit is active!  Since it sits on slightly raised ‘legs’, you do not have to worry about it burning your furniture or shelf.

   The first time I used the Simmer Pot, I was amazed at how quickly the rich scent filled the room! One bowl of Sprinkles has lasted me well over two weeks when heated for a few hours a day. And when you are ready to change your scent, simply unplug the unit and let the wax harden completely, then you can stick the bowl in the freezer for a little under 10 minutes and the wax will pop out easily! Sometimes, I have actually been able to reuse the wax depending on how long I let it burn to begin with!

Hanukkah Selection

  They have a great selection of Hanukkah chocolates including Silver Coins, Blue and Silver stars, traditional Hanukkah gelt, and even Blue and White Chocolate Malt Milk Balls.   My personal favorite are the Chanukah Disks which are solid milk chocolate disks that are wrapped in colorful Italian foils.  The foil wrappers are decorated with various Hanukkah designs such as dreidles, menorahs, Star of David’s and the Hebrew letters for Hanukkah.  They are approximately 2” in diameter and about 3/16” in width.  Of course, for the purpose of review only I had to try one to make sure they passed my taste inspection!  The verdict? As soon as I opened the foil I could smell the rich chocolate aroma.  The disk was smooth except for a pattern of raised dots around the outside edge.  It had a rich milk chocolate taste that practically melts in your mouth!  Delicious!

Christmas Selection

   Their Christmas selection is huge!  Everything from milk chocolate balls to solid chocolate Santa ornaments, bells, stars cute keepsake boxes filled with chocolates and gift sets such as their Christmas Mint Truffle Gift Box.  After much deliberation and mind-changing, I choose the incredibly cute Snowman Giftable.   This cute keepsake is a clear plastic container stuffed full of caramel filled milk chocolate balls.  Both the bottom and top of the container has white cardboard ‘lids’ with blue snowflakes, and the top lid has a cute snowman’s head with a scarf and matching knit cap.  There are about 16 little foil-wrapped caramel-filled chocolate balls inside the container, each wrapper decorated with a snowman’s head.  Again, strictly for the purpose of review, I was obligated to sample the product.  My verdict?  Once unwrapped, the small almost egg-shaped chocolate had a wonderful aroma, and its smooth surface had a pattern of lines radiating out from the center.  Hard on the outside, the sweet milk chocolate is filled with creamy, buttery caramel.  Absolutely delectable!  This is perfect for a stocking stuffer or a small gift, and the left over container can be used year after year as a decoration, centerpiece or candy bowl!

The UGLee Pen

Amazingly Ugly, Amazingly Comfy!

  I love writing and have since I was a child.  Short stories, poetry, essays, letters and more.  I love watching a blank page become filled with words.  I love being able to express myself through writing, for me it’s so much easier than speaking.  The sound of the pen scratching against the grains of the paper.  The smell of the ink.  And one of the most important parts of writing is the instrument I use.  I am fond of using pens when I write, and I always look for certain characteristics before I will buy new ones.   First of all, I want it to write smoothly, not skip along the page where I have to go back and fill in missing lines and curves of my letters.  I want the ink to be dark and bold, not too light or pale where it is hard to see.  Most important of all, I want it to be comfortable in my hand!  If the pen is not comfortable, I will not use it for long. 
   As a child, I would hold my pens much too tight, and I would write all the time, so as a result, a callous has actually formed on the side of my finger.  Teachers would tell me to loosen my grip, to use on of those triangular-shaped grips that you can slide on the pen.  Nothing ever worked, the callous is still there.  I also regularly get hand cramps and discomfort, leaving me able to write maybe half a sentence before I have to stop and shake out my hand.

   Recently I came across a new pen, appropriately named the UGLee Pen! Created by a doctor, Dr. James Lee, this ergonomically-designed pen was made for comfort.  It has a full-sized grip and its overall shape and detailed contours that are made to follow the anatomy of the human hand. 

   The grip is made from a soft rubber and extends from right above the tip up the whole length of the barrel.  It is texturized to help provide an even better grip, and my fingers fit perfectly in the grooves.  The grip also has the nice bonus of keeping the pen from rolling away!  The only downside to the grip is that I have noticed it seems to attract fur!  So if you have animals, don’t be surprised to see their fur on the grip of your pen!

  The entire pen weighs only 11 grams which is very light even for a pen, and you know that less mass means less inertia which means more comfort when writing!

  The pens come standard with a medium point and black ink.  They are refillable, and you can choose from blue, black or red ink for the refills.  They also come in a variety of barrel colors such as red, blue, pink, green and more.

  So, does it truly work as far as being the most comfortable pen?  Yes!  The first time I used it I was very impressed with how well it fit my hand, almost like it literally was an extension of me!  For the first time in a very long while, I was able to write pages and pages without having to stop.  I believe it writes smoother than any gel pen, fountain pen or roller ball pen I have used.  The ink flows continuously and smoothly, with no skipping, scratching, fading, blobbing or smearing. This has quickly become my favorite pen!  The longer I use it, the more comfortable the grip becomes, plus I have noticed that it no longer feels like I am gripping my pen as though trying to squeeze the life out of it!

WOWindows! Wow Your Neighborhood with These Cute Decorations

  Since our family celebrates both Hanukkah and Christmas, I was very excited when WOWindows sent me two separate window posters to review, Santa Claus II and the Menorah with Peel Away Candle Reveals.  Each poster is made of plastic, and comes with instructions and adhesive squares that you use to hang them.  They are extremely easy to hang, simply put one adhesive square on each corner of the window, then hang the poster, starting from top to bottom and smoothing it down as you go.

   The posters are pretty large, measuring 3’ x 5’.   Unfortunately, this is a little wider than the front windows in our apartment, but we soon discovered they fit pretty well on our sliding glass doors!

Santa Claus II
  This giant poster show a rosy-cheeked Santa with his toy sack slung over his shoulder on a black background.  It is very well done, and looks great from the outside, especially at night when the lights make it appear to glow!  I could see how someone walking or driving by might do a ‘double-take’ thinking Santa is walking by the window!  It is a perfect addition to our usual Christmas décor.






Hanukkah Menorah with Peel Away Candle Reveals
   This is my personal favorite as it is “interactive”!  There is a picture of a gold colored Menorah with a Star of David and eight burning candles, plus the Shamus, on a background of solid black.  On a separate sheet of paper there are black candle “flames” that you use to cover the flames on the poster.  As each night of Hanukkah arrives, you “light” the Menorah by peeling off the flame cover over the appropriate night’s candle allowing light to shine through and  giving the appearance of the candles lit and glowing.  It is very nice and I bet our son will get a kick out of “lighting” each night’s candle.

   We love the way these look in our windows!  They are very affordable, and in my opinion are the perfect amount of decoration without being too much!   We love how easy they are to hang up, and once the holidays are over, we can simply take them down, fold them up and store them until next year!

IKEA Soft Toys: Klappar Leopard

   Every year, staring in early November and running through late December, the IKEA Foundation runs the Soft Toys for Education Campaign.   For every soft toy sold, one Euro is split between UNICEF and Save the Children for educational projects in almost 40 countries!  Since the campaign began back in 2003, over $61 million in donations have been made, helping eight million children around the world through over 70 programs.  Last year, in the US alone, IKEA raised over $1 million through the sale of soft toys during the campaign!    Together, IKEA, UNICEF and Save the Children make a difference for millions of children by reducing malnutrition and infant disease, improving literacy, and improving  the education of the most disadvantaged children.   All of this, from the purchase of adorable soft toys!
    UNICEF works all over the world and has saved more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization in the world.  They provide children with clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more.
   Save the Children is the leading independent organization for children in need with programs in 120 countries including the United States.  They work to support projects which improve the lives of the most marginalized children’s health, education and economic opportunities.

It is made with all new material, mainly polyester fiber, and is incredibly soft and squishy!  It’s eyes and whiskers are fabric, not the hard plastic ones found on some stuffed animals.  There are no visible stitches, and it appears to be very well made!  It is very cute and I cannot wait to give it to my niece for the holidays!
