     While shopping for gifts for the whole family, I always make sure I do not forget Sookie, our 2 year old Calico cat, after all pets are part of the family too!  Every year Sookie gets at least one Hanukkah and one Christmas present wrapped in paper.  Of course at first her favorite part is the discarded wrapping paper, but once the novelty of that wears off, she immediately begins to inspect her newest gifts.  This year, for the purpose of review, she received her gifts a bit early!  Gifts that came from one of the top pet product manufacturers, Kong.

    Kong has been a leader in pet products for years, making toys, treats and accessories for cats and dogs, and even birds and other pets!  Yet they are not just any pet product company because they actually care.  Their products are made with animals specific needs in mind, not just for something to play with, but safe products that actually stimulate and meet the animals instinctual and behavioral needs. 

  Sookie was sent one of Kong’s newer toys to review, the Kong Cat Wobbler along with a bag Kong Stuff’N treats.  Like all Kong products, the Cat Wobbler was created to provide both mental and physical stimulation for the cat which is very important, especially if the cat is an indoor cat like our Sookie.  The Cat Wobbler also makes playtime fun and rewarding as it doubles as a treat or food dispenser, and since it makes the cat work for their food, it effectively both slows down rapid eating and erases boredom, two large causes of obesity in cats.

   The Cat Wobbler is made of durable plastic and has a weighted rounded bottom and a translucent top which you can twist off in order to add the treats or food.  There is a catnip-stuffed soft floppy tail attached to the top to encourage the cat to swat and tug which in turns makes the entire toy wobble around.  The more the cat tugs and pushes, kicks and swats, the more the Wobbler spins and rocks, eventually tipping far enough to the side for the food/treats inside to fall out of a small hole along the side of the toy.  Since the top is translucent, the cat can also see the food moving around on the inside which naturally causes them to hunt and capture the “prey”.

  At first Sookie was very wary of her new toy.  I pushed it around a little so she could see it wobble and the tail move around, and it still took her awhile before she came to investigate.  Once she finally did approach the toy, she swatted at it a few times and barely made it wobble.  I left her to explore it for herself, and when I came back in a few minutes later, some treats were on the floor.  Since then I have seen her ‘attack’ it quite a few times, usually grabbing the tail, flopping onto her side and pulling it over.  This seems to be the easiest way for her to get the treats since the bottom is so weighted that it is not easy to tip over and once it does tip, it quickly rights itself.  

  The Kong Wobbler is very well made, and the idea is cute!  Like all Kong toys, it is very well made and durable.  I could see a puppy having a blast with this as well!
