Zevia Soda: All Natural, All Good

     Soda is one of the world’s most liked drinks, and possibly one of the worst for you!  Sugar, sodium, caffeine, artificial color and preservatives, high calorie content, the list goes on and on.  It’s a shame that something that tastes so good, is so bad!  But don’t get too let down, because there are plenty of alternatives out there, and I had the chance to try one of the most popular one’s, Zevia, All Natural Soda.  Zevia is not just a zero-calorie or a sugar free soda, in fact, it is all of those AND is all natural!
     Zevia soda is made without any artificial sweeteners, instead it is made with Stevia which is a plant from the sunflower family that is originally native to South America.  The leaf is actually 300 times sweeter than sugar, but it has absolutely no calories nor does it have an effect on blood sugar, making this soda ideal for people who are watching their sugar intake.  There is also very little to no sodium in the soda, and only a few specific flavors contain caffeine which has been naturally derived from coffee.  Hence, an all natural soda with zero calories, zero fat and zero unhealthy ingredients.

     Zevia is available in fifteen (15) flavors, six (6) of which I had the opportunity to sample.  Below is a list of each flavor, which you can click on to get descriptions including nutritional value.  The flavors followed by an asteric are the one’s with caffeine.

    I was pleasantly surprised with this soda. I am not a fan of all those other kinds of sweeteners, I really do not like any kind of sweetener except sugar, so I was expecting Zevia to have that distinctive non-sugar flavor, but it did not.  I’ll be honest and say that there were some flavors I just did not like, but everybody’s tastes are different. Each one we tried, tasted pretty much like the name, though I personally thought some could stand a little more of the flavoring.  My favorites were the Orange and the Black Cherry.  My son, on the other hand, loved them all!  And that is great news because I try to limit the amount of sugar he gets in his diet, as well as caffeine, so this is a perfect compromise!  As far as a natural soda, one that is actually not bad for you, Zevia is an excellent choice!
