Del Sol: Amazing Color Changing Products

A New Meaning Behind Fun in the Sun!

     Del Sol, Spanish for ‘of the sun’, and such a fitting name for these unique color-changing products, for once the light of the sun touches them, they magically change colors in front of your eyes! I am talking about tee-shirts, hoodies, hair bows, nail polish, jewelry, toys and so much more!  Items designed and produced by a company named Del Sol.
     If you are curious like me you are probably wondering how in the world this works. It’s simple! NASA began exploring earlier concepts of color change for its Space Program back in the  1970’s and 1980’s, but Del Sol further developed and expanded this technology, eventually developing their own Spectrachrome® color-changing crystals which are used in all of their products today.  These crystals are harvested from some of the most colorful and sunniest places on Earth, then engineered for use on Del Sol products.  How they work is similar to how a flower reacts to the sun, opening and exposing their hidden colors when exposed to the sun’s rays.  A simple concept, but extremely cool!
     When I first found the Del Sol website, I was so intrigued with the wide selection of products offered, I could hardly make up my mind! I did finally decide on a tee-shirt, hoodie and a bottle of nail polish, and I love them so much that I have a feeling I will be getting some more!
V-Neck T-Shirt - Koi Fish
     This is a pretty t-shirt to begin with, even without the amazing color change!  Made from 100% cotton, it is soft and comfortable, and has a beautiful Koi fish and floral design on the front.  Out of sunlight, the design appears to be done in a dark, dark purplish color on the white shirt.  Once exposed to the rays of the sun though, a beautiful rainbow of color magically, and quickly, blooms.  Vibrant blue, yellow, orange and green bring the flowers and fish to life. Once you walk back inside, the colors fade away once again.  It is very cool!  And no special care is needed as far as washing the shirt.  Just machine wash in cold water using a non-chlorine bleach if needed, then tumble dry on low heat.  Be sure not to iron the design.  I love it, and it makes a great conversation piece!

Hooded Zip Sweatshirt - Butterfly Filigree

    The second item I received is a very nice gray colored hooded sweatshirt which zips up the front.  A very soft blend of 80% cotton and 20% polyester, it is not a heavy, thick sweatshirt, but instead is more like a light-weight jacket perfect for cool weather.  The interior is a soft French-terry, and the hood has a drawstring to help it fit snug.  It has a pretty dark gray scrollwork design as the background on which a pink and purple butterfly soars above a pink flowered vine entwined with a white banner.  On the banner is the Del Sol name written in dark purple lettering.  Once in the sun, the background scrollwork becomes a beautiful dark purple to match the coloring in the butterfly and the Del Sol logo.  Another awesome feature is that there are two pockets in the front, inside one of which is a smaller-sized pocket the perfect size to hold an MP3 player, and there are thumbholes at the cuff of both sleeves.  Care is simple, just machine wash in warm water with no bleach, tumble dry on low, and be sure not to iron the design.  Super-cozy, super-comfy and super-cool!

Color Change Nail Polish – Calypso
     I love the color(s) of this nail polish!  It comes in a 0.5 ounce Italian glass bottle with stainless steel mixing balls, and is toluene-free.  It goes on smoothly without any clumping, and it is not too thick or too thin.  I have had it on for over a week now, and it has barely begun to chip, and it keeps a nice glossy finish.  I found two coats to be the perfect amount of color.  Out of the sun it is a pretty pink color with a hint of tangerine, but once you get outside it immediately changes into a lush lavender color!   Del Sol offers 22 stylish colors, each of which change into a dramatically different color once in the sun.  Some even have glitter!

     My opinion?  I love Del Sol’s products! Not only are they stylish, incredibly fun and cool, but everything seems to be very well made from high quality materials.
