Summer VoxBox Hawaiian Tropic Review

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Review

Another item I received from Influenster in my Summer 2012 VoxBox was a great smelling and much needed bottle of Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration lotion sunscreen.  While growing up I never really had to use much sunblock since I have an olive undertone to my skin and I would rarely get sunburned.  However, now that I am a little bit older, my skin tends to burn a lot easier.  With this summer being so extremely hot and very short on rain,  I can get a slight sunburn from being outside for even just a small amount of time.  Therefore, I have been using a variety of sunscreens trying to find one I really like that doesn't irritate my skin.  To my delight, when I opened the VoxBox, what was inside but a bottle of Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration lotion sunscreen with an SPF of 30!  I decided to put away my other sunscreens and give this one a try.

The first thing I noticed was the incredible scent.  I was expecting it to smell like the majority of other sunscreens with that aroma reminiscent of coconuts.  Nope. This lotion has a wonderfully fresh, almost citrus-y aroma that reminded me of the tropics.  So incredibly nice!
Now, judging by the name, Silk Hydration, I figured it would go on smooth as silk and keep my skin feeling hydrated while out in the sun. It is advertised to moisturize your skin for up to 12 hours while in the sun, and contains nourishing antioxidants and exotic botanicals.  Well, not only did it keep my skin hydrated while outside, but my skin actually stayed soft and hydrated feeling even after I had showered and washed the lotion off.
Silk Hydration is a very lightweight lotion which absorbs quickly and goes on smoothly without leaving your skin feeling greasy and slick.  I especially liked how it did not clog my pores so that when I had been in the sun for awhile, and was super hot and beginning to sweat, or as we say in the South, glow, pools of moisture did not collect all over my skin to where it looked like I had dipped my arm in the pool.  I have had this happen with a bunch of different lotions and cannot stand it!
After spending a while out by the pool, I was pleased to see that the lotion had provided the perfect amount of protection for my skin tone with no areas of sunburn anywhere I had applied it.  The sample I received has an SPF of 30 which works well for me, but if you easily burn, you might want to consider getting one with a higher SPF.  The Silk Hydration line is available in an SPF of 12, 30 and 50, all of which provide safe and effective broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.
I did not see anything about this lotion being waterproof, so I would advise that you reapply after swimming, sweating profusely or drying off with a towel to make sure your skin is protected at all times while out in the sun.
Hawaiian Tropic is a brand that has been around for as long as I can remember and has always made excellent, reliable products.  The Silk Hydration line is no exception;  I really enjoy using it and recommend giving it a try. It is easily available at many stores and the suggested retail price is $8.99 for a 6oz bottle.  If you want to learn more about the different lines of sunscreen made by Hawaiian Tropic you can visit their site by clicking here .  Remember, I received this lotion for free as part of my Summer 2012 VoxBox from Influenster.  I was not compensated in any way for this review, and all opinions are my own.
If you would like to join Influenster, where you can get items for free in exchange for sharing your honest opinion about the products you received, check out their site at http://www.influenster.com. It's a lot of fun.  Keep an eye out for my next Influenster Summer VoxBox product review coming tomorrow on Bullock's Buzz!

It's always nice to find a product that does more than it's intended purpose! I'm a bit surprised it maintained your skin even after being washed off, that's a keeper!

Any sunscreen that smells good is a sunscreen for me! I can't stand the generic sunscreens that have that pasty lotion smell. Yuck! Thanks for sharing about Hawaiian Tropics. I'll have to look for it next time I am out!

My family and I wear sunblock daily, it is a must to exit the house. My neighbor has had numerous surgeries to remove skin cancer, and we live in Fl. This is one of the brands I have always used, but have not heard of the silk hydration, I am going to try it. Thank you.

Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen smells very good. that is important because many brands have either no fragrance or they smell bad. Great review!

I hate the way some lotions leave you feeling sticky after you put them on so this sounds like something I should try out.

I love this lotion! I received it in my box as well. It smells so good, I started using it right after the shower- lol. It's very moisturizing and it doesn't hurt that the scent is so beachy :) i love it

I can not stand a stinky sunscreen and I am the color of paper, so one that smells good with a high SPF is a product for me!
