Our Future’s So Bright, We Gotta Wear Shades! Real Kids Shades, That Is

Review and Giveaway

Your child’s eyes are just as susceptible to damage from the sun as our eyes are, so why are almost all the sunglasses we buy for our children just for show?  Shouldn’t they provide UVA/UVB protection like adults sunglasses?  Of course they should!  That’s why Real Kids Shades makes exactly that, real shades for kids!  Every pair of their stylish and durable sunglasses provide 100% UVA/UVB protection measured by the strictest governing bodies, and they contain no lead, no PBA and no phthalates!  Plus, they are shatterproof, impact-resistant and designed to properly fit infants and children up to age 12!  In fact, their My First Shades line was designed with the help of a pediatric ophthalmologist to ensure they fit properly, were safe and comfortable.  Real Kids Shades works closely with Prevent Blindness America to educate parents about the importance of protecting your child’s eyes;  for more information on this and more check out the ‘Approved By’ tab on the Real Kids Shades website.
Real Kids Shades has a great selection of styles and designs made especially for our children’s active lifestyles and include banded shades and shades with removable bands, as well as soft and hard storage cases and carrying bags.  They are available in a rainbow of colors and all kinds of patterns so that your child is sure to have the coolest pair of shades on the block!  Check out their Products page and you are sure to find the perfect pair!

I was sent two different pairs for my son to try, a pair of their Extreme Sport shades and a pair of Glide shades.  The Xtreme Sports shades are designed for the very active child with a durable, wrap-around polycarbonate foam-backed frame which help to minimize the amount of light coming in from the sides, as well as anti-fogged vents.  Instead of the plastic things that go over your ears, these have a soft, mesh-lined adjustable neoprene band to firmly hold the shades in place while running, jumping and playing. And, like all of Real Kids Shades, the lenses are shatterproof and impact-resistant polycarbonate and provide 100% UVA/UVB protection.  They come with a micro-fiber sleeve that can be used to keep the lenses clean and protect the shades.

The second pair are their Glide shades, and these are just as durable and stylish as the others.  Glides have rubber-tipped arrow temples to help grip the head and hold the shades firmly in place.  They also have wrap-around frames to minimize the amount of peripheral light that comes in from the sides.  The lenses are shatterproof and provide 100% UVA/UVB protection.  These shades are a nice glossy-metallic red, and the frames are impact-resistant.  All Glide’s come with a removable neoprene strap.

Both styles all available in a great selection of colors for both girls and boys, and can be found under the tab for kids aged 7-12.  You can also search the site by ages 0-3 and 3-7 or by selecting Gallery then the Products tab.  There is also a handy article on Tips for Selecting Sunglasses on the Real Kid Shades site.  Their shades can be purchased directly from the site, as well as online at Amazon and other sites, or use the Store Locator to find a location near you.  ‘Like’ Real Kids Shades on Facebook to learn about the latest deals, promotions and giveaways, and follow them on Twitter for even more information!

Can’t Decide Which One’s He Likes The Best
My son likes both pairs a lot, and although when asked he had a hard time deciding his favorite pair, he eventually said his most favorite are the Xtreme Sports.  According to him both pairs are comfortable and fit well.  They don’t slip down his nose or feel too tight.  He said the Xtreme Sports stay on very well when running and playing tag football with his friends, and even the Glides don’t slip off when running.  He also says they are dark enough to where the sunlight doesn’t bother him at all (he usually starts sneezing and squinting when he first goes outside in the sun), yet I can still see his eyes through the lenses.  All in all we both are very happy with his new shades, and he says he really like them because he looks “super cool”!
DID YOU KNOW…a few interesting facts:
Did you know that those ‘toy’ sunglasses most people buy for their children can actually cause more harm than help?  It’s true!  Just because the lenses are dark, does not mean that they have UVA/UVB protection, and since those dark shaded lenses allow the pupils to dilate, they are letting in even MORE of that harmful radiation.
Did you know that children’s eyes are at increased risk of damage from sunlight until they are at least 10 years old? Yes, it’s true.  And unlike skin cells, the eyes do not regenerate, once the damage is done, it is permanent, and can lead to all kinds of problems.  So protect their eyes from the damaging rays of the sun as you would their skin.  And with Real Kids Shades, you can rest assured their eyes are getting the protection they need!
Did you know that some of the Real Kids Shades styles can be fitted by an optician with prescription lenses?

The strap idea is excellent, so many times the kids have sunglasses they leave behind, get broken ect., because they sit them down and forget them. These look like the end to that, excellent.
